Malta’s success as a tourist destination very much depends upon the quality of our services and product. Accommodation and catering providers of whatever size and class must embrace levels of standards that compete well with other destinations in the Mediterranean. Over the last couple of years we have experienced a different kind of tourist, a tourist that is more ready to explore and is looking for an ‘experience’ during his visit. Today’s traveller is interested in diversity and wants to explore the culture and traditions of the country. This means the visitor is looking for product which is well presented and unique opportunities to experience the character of the country. The cuisine offer of a country is part of its product and character and therefore it is going to be a major part of the visitor’s experience. Catering establishments need to rise to our visitor’s expectations. Hence this “Recommended” label scheme for restaurants.
The MHRA, being always a pro-active association and always at the forefront in encouraging members to raise standards in their establishments, is launching this initiative for the restaurants sector to help in raising standards in this vital area of Malta’s Tourism Product. The scheme is voluntary and will ask restaurateurs to honour a set of procedures and criteria all of which are operational as well as customer and staff based. The scheme will assist the restaurateur towards the achievement of an all-round high quality service product.

The achievement of the’ Recommended’ label will place the establishment a cut above the rest in a class of its own and will give it added value to succeed.
MHRA invites all those that value standards in their service offer and want to have a rewarding and profitable operation to participate in this scheme. Details of the scheme are in available in this section of MHRA website.
